Why PSM Training Matters?

In aviation, safety is paramount, and the impact of psychoactive substances – whether drugs or alcohol – can have devastating consequences if not properly managed. This training ensures that aviation personnel understand the testing procedures, risks and legal implications of working under the influence, how to recognize signs of impairment, and the appropriate actions to take to maintain the safety of passengers and crew.

Our PSM Training program prepares aviation professionals to address this critical aspect of operational safety with confidence, professionalism, and a proactive approach.

Our Training Approach

Our Psychoactive Substances Management Training is delivered by certified experts in aviation safety and substance misuse prevention as well as the testing procedures. Using a combination of classroom instruction, real-life case studies, and interactive discussions, we offer a comprehensive approach to understanding the risks and responsibilities related to psychoactive substances in aviation.

Key components of our PSM Training:

  1. Understanding Psychoactive Substances
Participants will gain in-depth knowledge about various types of psychoactive substances, including prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, alcohol, and illegal substances. We’ll explore their effects on the human body, how they impair cognitive and motor functions, and how they can negatively affect performance in high-stakes environments like aviation.
  2. Impairment Recognition
Knowing how to identify signs of impairment is essential for maintaining safety. This module covers how to recognize the physical and behavioral indicators that an individual may be under the influence. Through real-world examples and case studies, participants learn to identify subtle signs of impairment and how to respond appropriately.
  3. Legal and Regulatory Aspects
Aviation professionals must be aware of the strict legal regulations governing the use of psychoactive substances within the industry. This section covers international regulations, such as those from the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), and local laws governing substance use, testing, and reporting. We also discuss the consequences of non-compliance and the importance of a zero-tolerance policy for substance misuse.
  4. Managing Substance-Related Incidents
This component focuses on best practices for managing suspected impairment on the job. Participants will learn how to properly approach, assess, and manage situations where impairment is suspected, including how to report and handle the incident according to company policy and legal requirements.
  5. Promoting a Healthy Safety Culture
Beyond just identifying and managing impairment, our training emphasizes creating a safety-first culture where employees feel empowered to report substance-related concerns and work in an environment of mutual respect and accountability. We cover the importance of prevention, the role of leadership, and the value of open communication in promoting a healthy and safe workplace.
